In this second post, we will review National Cat Day and its importance to all cat owners. The purpose of National Cat Day is to shed light on cats left in shelters with the intent of finding forever homes for each and every one. Four million cats enter shelters each year, with over 1 million cats euthanized each year. Feline Fix by Five is an important initiative in preventing unwanted litters of kittens even before they are born! By spaying/neutering your female cat by five months, you will reduce the risk of mammary gland cancer and help prevent another litter of kittens from being born. For male cats, early neuter reduces aggression and destructive behaviors.
National Cat Day is a way to celebrate the lives of our treasured felines and a way to show our commitment not only to our forever feline friends, but to elevating their status by reducing their numbers. Just think, with Feline Fix by Five, cats in shelters can be a thing of the past!
At the end of October, we celebrate Halloween! Who doesn’t love the black cat image with Halloween? Black cats are associated with Halloween! Starting with Colonial times, the Puritan Pilgrims believed that cats were associated with witches and sorcery and actively persecuted black cats. After the Puritan era, the legend of the black cat lived on and is used as a symbol for Halloween along with witches.
Consider adopting a black cat from a shelter because they are less likely to be adopted than cats with other colors of fur.
