At Feline Fix by Five celebrate International Cat Day but recognize that we have some work to do!

Did you know that August 8 is International Cat Day?  The holiday, also known as World Cat Day, was created by the International Fund for Animal Welfare and other animal rights groups, in 2002 to celebrate the special bond we have with our cats and as a way to advocate for our beloved felines to keep them safe and healthy.

According to recent studies, there are approximately 3.4 million cats that enter shelters each year in the U.S. alone. Sadly, out of those 3.4 million, about 1.4 million of these cats will be euthanized. Of all of the felines which enter U.S. shelters each year, around 41% are euthanized, 37% are adopted and 5% returned to their owners. Fixing your cat by five months eliminates the chance that your female will get pregnant with unwanted litters.

Imagine if we could wipe out the chance of cats entering shelters? With an estimated 500 million of our feline friends to help improve our mental health and stability, we need to make sure we take care of them.

Celebrate International Cat Day by donating to Feline Fix by Five, adopting a cat from your local animal shelter, or consider volunteering at one.  How about visiting a cat café on International Cat Day?

In the meantime, celebrate all things cat and hug and kiss your own cats today! They deserve it!
