United Spay Alliance Receives Generous Funding from the Wiederhold Foundation to Support Critical Training for Veterinarians

Anywhere, USA (April 22, 2024) – United Spay Alliance (USA) is pleased to announce that it has been approved for funding from the John T. and Jane A. Wiederhold Foundation, a supporting organization of the Northwest CT Community Foundation. The generous contribution of $20,000 will support USA’s mission to provide critical training for veterinarians in high-quality, high-volume spay/neuter (HQHVSN) techniques.

This funding will enable USA to conduct a total of four (4) wet labs in Massachusetts and Connecticut, with each wet lab costing approximately $5,000. These wet labs play a crucial role in training veterinarians in HQHVSN techniques, which are essential for increasing access to affordable spay/neuter services. By training more veterinarians, USA aims to improve outcomes in animal shelters and strengthen the bond between pets and their families.

United Spay Alliance held the first HQHVSN wet lab in April of last year at the Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland in Portland, Maine, and the Veterinary Shortage Task Force was very pleased by its success. One of the attending students said, “The variety of cats and the number allows for valuable, varied experiences and valued mentorship commentary…This course did provide an excellent opportunity to learn in a safe, ethical, and supportive environment.” Following the positive reception and impact of this inaugural session, United Spay Alliance is excited to expand its efforts this year by partnering with several organizations along the East Coast.

USA expresses gratitude to the Wiederhold Foundation for their support and allowing us to expand our training efforts and create a universal training model that can benefit veterinarians nationwide.
