Anywhere, USA (April 22, 2024) – As National Pet Week® approaches, from May 5-11, 2024, United Spay Alliance (USA) is proud to announce its collaboration with the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) to promote responsible pet care, with a special focus on the importance of spaying and neutering kittens by five months of age.

National Pet Week®, established in 1981 by AVMA and the Auxiliary to AVMA, is celebrated during the first full week of May each year. It serves as a reminder of the invaluable bond between pets and their owners and encourages best practices in pet care year-round.

One crucial aspect of responsible pet care is ensuring that kittens are spayed or neutered by five months of age. USA’s Feline Fix by Five initiative emphasizes this timeline, highlighting that kittens as young as five months old can give birth to unwanted litters if not spayed or neutered in time.

Feline Five by Five offers research and resources on the benefits of early spaying and neutering, and empowers veterinarians to talk to their clients about the best time to spay/neuter kittens — before five months. By spreading awareness and providing resources, USA and AVMA are working together to reduce the number of unwanted kittens and improve feline health nationwide.

During National Pet Week®, USA invites veterinary professionals to join the Feline Fix by Five initiative and promote early spaying/neutering practices.
