Another Successful Training Opp for Vets!

Another Successful Training Opp for Vets!

On Saturday, November 11, USA facilitated the second wet lab in our pilot program, aimed at providing hands-on training to veterinarians looking to learn high-quality, high-volume spay/neuter techniques.

Led by two experienced spay/neuter surgeons, Dr. Beth Sperry and Dr. Lindsay Church, a team of five veterinary technicians, two assistant technicians, and one clinic manager came together at the Maine Animal Health Alliance to provide a one-of-a-kind training opportunity to six dedicated veterinarians.

We couldn’t be more pleased with how the day panned out! Over 40 cats from local rescues received spay/neuter services, while each and every veterinarian gained the experience and confidence they needed to take their spay/neuter skills to the next level.

But don’t take our word for it! Here’s what our veterinary trainees had to say:

“Amazing CE. Great team & learning experience.” – Dr. Jaime G

“Very well organized. Contagious connection to making a difference. Practical skills, and excellent guidance as our skills developed.” – Dr. Mark H

“This was awesome! Thank you all SO much! You are all doing amazing work.” – Dr. Susan H

“This day was wonderful. I learned many useful skills that can be immediately applied in my regular work. The day was relaxed by steady, and this was a very positive, productive learning environment.” – Dr. Carolyn H

“Great day! I had a blast!!!” – Dr. Hailey L

“Best CE ever! Thank you so much.” – Dr. Becky M

This wet lab was a literal lifesaver for one very lucky feline.

Our lead veterinarian, Dr. Sperry, was contacted by a family desperately looking for help for their cat, Charlie, who was suffering from severe pyometra (a life-threatening infection of the uterus). Two clinics had already turned them away after driving four hours from their home in northern Maine. They were desperate for someone to help. Dr. Sperry suggested they bring Charlie in during the November 11 wet lab.

Veterinary trainees had the opportunity to learn not only spay/neuter techniques, but how to save the life of a cat suffering from pyometra, under the experienced guidance of Dr. Sperry and Dr. Church.

After a successful surgery, Dr. Sperry said that Charlie likely would not have survived another 48 hours without intervention. Now she is on the road to a full recovery!

We are incredibly grateful to Dr. Sperry and Dr. Church, and the entire veterinary team, for making this training opportunity a reality, and to the Elmina B. Sewall Foundation for generously sponsoring the event.
