Job Description
The Department of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences of the College of Agriculture
at Tennessee State University is seeking to hire an Assistant or Associate Professor of Veterinary Medicine and Extension Veterinarian. This
is a tenure-track, 12-month faculty position. This faculty member will be expected to teach various subjects in Veterinary science, conduct
research with externally funded grants and publish scholarly papers in relevant, scholarly, peer reviewed journals. This faculty member will
also be expected to serve as the TSU Extension veterinarian and be responsible for establishing a state-wide Extension and outreach program
to train Extension agents, prepare and provide Extension curricula for Extension agents, and educate livestock producers in Tennessee. This
faculty member will also work with other faculty members, state veterinarians, the Tennessee Department of Agriculture, the Tennessee Farm
Bureau Federation and other livestock associations in Tennessee to carry out their responsibilities.

The candidate will be
responsible for managing the Laboratory Animal Care Facility. Familiarity with the IACUC submission, review, and approval process is
essential. Knowledge of Federal law, Public Health Service Guidelines, AAALAC guidelines, and institutional policies, including the USDA
APHIS Animal Welfare Act and PHS Policy on the use of laboratory animals are expected.


DVM with certification to practice Veterinary Medicine in USA. DVM with Ph. D is preferred. Experience
in teaching, research and/or Extension will be preferred. Ability to teach, conduct research and publish in relevant, scholarly professional
journals. Ability to write and secure external grants. Understanding and ability to plan, implement, evaluate and report statewide Extension
and outreach program.
