United Spay Alliance is working with its partners to establish a comprehensive national network of spay/neuter referral programs that covers every U.S. state and the District of Columbia. Once completed, this network will consist of 50 statewide referral programs (SRPs), complemented by any number of local referral programs (LRPs) that focus on specific regions, counties, or cities. These crucial programs connect people with spay/neuter resources and, in so doing, improve the lives of countless dogs, cats, and people.
But we have a lot of work to do. Nearly half of all states have no formal statewide spay/neuter referral program. Fortunately, new referral programs can be easily launched as programs of existing animal welfare organizations such as humane societies, rescues, clinics, or groups that provide low-cost spay/neuter vouchers or certificates. Some referral programs are operated by a single passionate individual working through a small non-profit.
